You can see the ‘Hair’ documentary, directed by Florin Iepan, in the Svilara Cultural Station on 30 October at 6 p.m.
Long hair was a sign of the anti-regime attitude in autocratic Romania during the last century, part of an alternative culture that developed in the shadow of a society under the dictatorial regime of Nicolae Ceaușescu. Through the archives of amateur filmmakers, some of the most recognizable figures of the art world of Timişoara and Arad return to the light, rediscovering the Romanian writer Mircea Mihăieș back in 1975 through the lens of the Kinema Icon film club. In addition, the audience will have a chance to see what happened during the legendary concert of the American band Blood, Sweat & Tears in Bucharest in the late sixties.
The film was jointly implemented by director Florin Iepan and editor Calin Meda, and is part of the ‘Timişoara – 2023 European Capital of Culture’ project called ‘Rod Festival’.
After the screening, the visitors will be able to participate in discussions with filmmakers and Romanian writer Goran Mrakić, as well as Zoran Pantelić, an art producer and researcher of the Centre for New Media, who has covered topics and curated exhibitions of the Yugoslav New Avant-Garde, with an emphasis on the Novi Sad New Avant-Garde of the 1970s and 1980s.
