Exhibition by students of philosophy entitled ‘Philosophers Sculpt’ will be opened in Svilara Cultural Station on Tuesday, 2 February, at 6 p.m.
There are nine weeks of constant work behind the 30 sculptures, which the audience will be able to see until 10 February, every working day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
During the first week, the students sculpted a shallow relief in negative, with a topic of still- life, and made a print in plaster. The second week they made a portrait by the model, the third cast in plaster of that portrait, the fourth and fifth weeks they made a figure according to the model in clay suitable for baking (terracotta). For the next two weekends, they carved a portrait in a plaster wall, while in the eighth and ninth week they made copies according to a chosen reproduction of famous Novi Sad sculptors.
The aim of the of the ‘Sculpture Language and Visual Thinking’ project, which in addition to the ‘Philosophers Sculpt’ exhibition includes a panel discussion called ‘Art and Philosophy in Communication’, was to raise awareness and verbalize the possibilities and meaning of form, composition, texture, volume, surface and space as basic elements of sculpture. Furthermore, students of philosophy, who are focused on strictly rational thinking through education, can experience the process of creating a work of art more deeply and seriously.
The project of the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad is funded by the Provincial Secretariat for Higher Education and Scientific Research.
